This afternoon, we attended our daughters’ voice and piano performances at the Weston Music Studio Spring Recital in the Bevins Room at Lyon College. The recital represented the end of another semester of hard work and practice under the tutelage of Dr. Sarah Weston and Dr. Michael Oriatti.
The girls each had a solo piano piece (“Looking Glass River” by Presley and “Singin’ in the Rain” by Peyton) and a solo vocal performance (“Take Me Home Country Roads” by Peyton and “Boats of Mine” by Presley). They also teamed up for a very funny (in our opinion) duet of the Irving Berlin classic “Sisters” from White Christmas. (You can see any of these videos on YouTube by clicking the title of each song.)
The recital also featured performances by the Highlander Youth Singers and the Wee Highlanders performing “traveling” songs such as “Orange Blossom Special”, “Wabash Cannonball”, “The Captain’s Mate”, “Homeward Bound” and several others.
It was a delightful afternoon of music and singing, culminating in the presentation of several awards and recognitions, including announcements honoring each of our daughters’ ascension up a level in their piano ability and, quite impressively, sharing the award for Most Advancement for their contributions to the Studio this year. We continue to count ourselves very fortunate indeed to have such gifted collegiate instructors in this area so willing to dedicate their time and efforts to the musical education of our youth!
